hospital bag + labor essentials.

hospital bag

with this being our second little dude to be born in a hospital, I took notes of what I actually needed from the first time around.

there’s a lot you’ll think you need to take, but I like to keep things as simple + minimal as possible and this is my take on that for you!

“It cannot overpower you, because it is part of you.”

HOSPITAL BAG FOR MAMA:

  • wallet/photo id

  • a LONG phone charger — you’ll most likely want your phone closeby for pics and hospital plugs are forever and a day away from your bed.

  • your own pillows + blanket — hospitals are freezing and you’ll want your own kinda cozy

  • snacks or quarters for the vending machine — dried fruit + nuts, candies, granola bars

  • water bottle with straw — a few options i’ve loved over the years — bkr, binkmade, hydroflask

  • clothes — you’ll want to bring several outfits because you won’t know how long you will be staying. you’ll want things like — loose tops, nursing tanks, bralettes, nursing dresses, robes, cardigan, leggings or joggers, socks, slippers. i’ve linked some of my favs for you!

  • toiletries — toothpaste + toothbrush, face wash, hair ties/clips, supplements, lotion, lip balm, shampoo + conditioner

  • pump + parts + storage bags — this is only if you want your own. the hospital has one they can provide you with if necessary. we are trying out the elvie this go around as I pumped a lot with my first and will need to be more hands free.

  • airpods or speaker to set whatever tone you want in your room

  • going home outfit — think lose and cozy — preferably a dress in case you had a c-section you will not want to be wearing pants around your waistline

HOSPITAL BAG FOR BABY:

  • swaddle — not your nicest one since it’s a short stay but one you’ll want in pics

  • a couple outfits — here’s a couple of my favs that are easy and cute — westyn, rocketbug, h&m

  • paci — our first never took a paci but it could be nice to have on hand there

  • diapers + wipes — only if you plan to use a certain brand otherwise the hospital will have PLENTY that you’ll actually get to stock up on and take home too!
