half bath makeover for under $100.

half bath makeover

We have lived in our house for almost four years and have only made changes to two spaces in the whole home which are our sons rooms. I had the itch to change something up, but couldn’t tackle a huge renovation for time or money sake. I decided to take on the half bath downstairs. I couldn’t do an overhaul renovation, so I went with a little makeover using things we already had and only purchasing three new things: a new rug for $20, a new vanity light for $45 off marketplace and the paint for $29 totaling to $94. Here are some before’s!

Half baths are such a great space to renovate because they don’t affect much of the rest of the house and they are such small spaces, making them feasible for time and finances.

I’ve always been a neutral color loving kinda gal, but i’ve stepped into more of a color era and knew exactly what paint color I wanted to go with: Benjamin moore dark olive. Again, half baths are such a great space to try things out on since they don’t affect the larger home and they’re such small spaces. I bought a new vanity light to match other lighting in our home as the current vanity light was a part of what came with the home at purchase. From there I decided to match the mirror and vanity light with the hardware we already had. I spray painted the mirror black with paint we already had on hand. Pro tip: cover the glass with paper by sliding it under the inside edges and it saves you so much time from taping. I wanted a new rug to match the more modern color and found the perfect one on my first search at target. I don’t think any room is complete without something fresh and real, so I used plaster of paris over a red vase I had but didn’t like the color of to give it some hand potted texture and then spray painted it with paint we had on hand after it dried and added dried olive branches to it. Lastly, I kept the art that I already had and reused it in the same spaces. It’s clean lined and matched well with the new paint + wall space. Here’s some of the after’s!

We didn’t change out the faucet hardware and that’s okay. It kept things cost effective, less hassle and thankfully we live in a world where mixing metals works! We also didn't change out the blinds even though some bamboo or roman shades would be the perfect addition to this room. Again, it’s cost effective and it still meshes with the rest of the home as these same shades are throughout the rest of the house. It’s perfectly okay to not overhaul a room and make minor changes that are big. Remember: don’t discredit what a little paint can do!
